Two Howard County Library System staff members have been named 2023 Movers and Shakers by Library Journal.

HOWARD COUNTY, MD — Howard County Library System staff members Brooke McCauley and Irma Fernandez have been named 2023 Movers and Shakers by Library Journal, a recognition that, since 2002, annually spotlights a group of individuals who are moving the library field forward as a profession.

McCauley joined HCLS in 2019 as customer experience manager and was recognized in the "change agents" category.

“The customer experience position was an opportunity to use my skills in a new industry, helping the library connect with new customers and increase access to resources," McCauley said.

was recognized in the "educators" category.

“It’s one of those fights that’s ongoing,” she said. “If I can change that for even one child who’s never been to a library before ... that’s amazing.”
