2020 Elections: Here's How And Where To Vote In Howard County

HOWARD COUNTY, MD — From voting for local circuit court judges and school board members to the presidential office, Election Day 2020 could turn out to be a nail biter. Howard County residents who haven't yet registered to vote need to do so by the Oct. 13 deadline at elections.maryland.gov. Voters can register during in-person early voting or on Election Day, too.

There are several ways to vote in the upcoming elections. Registered voters can:

Vote by mail

• Request a mail-in ballot from the State Board of Elections or your local board
  • A valid Maryland ID is required
  • Election officials must receive the request by Oct. 20 (leave five businesses days for USPS to deliver the request)
• To hand deliver your ballot, you must deliver it to your local board of elections by 8 p.m. on election day or you take it to an early voting center, an Election Day vote center, or a ballot drop off box by the time the polls close.
• If you mail your ballot, make sure that the envelope is postmarked on or before general Election Day. Your voted ballot must be received by your local board of elections by 10 a.m. on Nov. 13.
• You can check and see if your mail-in ballot was received. Visit the voter look-up website to verify if your local board of elections received your request for a ballot and the status of your mail-in ballot.

Vote in person

• This can be done during the early voting period or on Election Day from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
  • On early voting days, cast your ballot at one of Howard County's voting centers (click here for locations)
    • The State Board of Elections says the best time to vote is on weekends
• On Election Day, cast your ballot at one of Howard County's voting centers
  • Voters will be required to stand six feet apart and the number of people inside voting centers will be capped (which may result in lines and wait times)
    • The State Board of Elections says the best time to vote on Election Day is between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.
• Voters can bring one or two children younger than 18 years old with them to vote. Under Maryland law, the children can accompany a voter as long as they do not disrupt or interfere with normal voting procedures.
• Voters cannot use their cell phone, pager, camera and computer equipment in an early voting center or at a polling place.
• Some first time voters in Maryland will be asked to show ID before voting, which can include but isn't limited to a Maryland driver's license, MVA ID card, student, employee or military ID card, U.S. passport, or any other state or federal government-issued ID card, or a copy of a current utility bill, bank statement, government check, paycheck or other government document that shows name and address.

Early voting in Maryland begins Oct. 26 and ends Nov. 2. Election Day is Nov. 3. There are five early voting centers designated in Howard County including at:
