3-Year-Old Killed, 6 Hurt In Chain-Reaction Crash: Howard Co. Police

A 3-year-old was killed in a four-vehicle chain reaction crash on Route 29 in Ellicott City, Howard County officials said.

ELLICOTT CITY, MD — Howard County police are investigating a fatal collision in Ellicott City on Friday that killed a child and injured six other people.

About 6:14 p.m., a 2018 Peterbilt truck hauling a tanker was traveling northbound on Route 29 approaching the ramp for Route 40 when it rear-ended a 2002 Honda Odyssey, setting off a chain reaction collision that involved two additional vehicles.

A 3-year-old passenger in the Honda was pronounced dead at Howard County General Hospital, Howard County Police said. Six more people in the three vehicles that were struck were taken to area hospitals, with injuries ranging from serious to minor.

Authorities have not identified the victims in the crash or the truck driver.

The cause of the collision remains under investigation.

Route 29 north between Route 100 and Route 40 was closed for about five hours.
