4 Howard Co. Students Named U.S. Presidential Scholars Program Semifinalists

Four Howard County high schoolers out of 13 statewide have been named U.S. Presidential Scholars Program semifinalists.

HOWARD COUNTY, MD — Four Howard County Public School System students have been named 2026 U.S. Presidential Scholars Program semifinalists.

The HCPSS students—who are among only 13 students across the state to be named semifinalists—are:

  • Nikhil R. Maddirala, Marriott Ridge High School
  • Advik Rai, River Hill High School
  • Chelsea Sun, Atholton High School
  • Jayen Tolia, Reservoir High School

Scholars are selected based on their accomplishments across many areas, including academic and artistic achievement, career and technical education success, leadership and school and community involvement, school leaders said.

Up to 161 students of the 621 semifinalists nationwide will be named U.S. Presidential Scholars by the U.S. Department of Education.
