Abandoned Building In HoCo Catches On Fire, Incident Under Investigation: Official

An abandoned building in Howard County caught on fire Thursday around 5 p.m. The incident is under investigation by the state fire marshal.

HOWARD COUNTY, MD — Around 5 p.m. Thursday, the Howard County Department of Fire and Rescue Services was called to a building fire in the 9500 block of Washington Boulevard in Laurel.

Firefighters found an abandoned building fully engulfed in flames. Route 1 was shut down at this time so the fire hose could run across the street and provide water to battle the blaze.

Firefighters gained control of the fire around 5:40 p.m. with no civilian or fire department injuries. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Maryland Office of the Fire Marshal.
