Retire Worn Out Flags At Marriottsville Drop-off Site

Howard County residents can retire their old and worn out flags at a drop-off spot at Alpha Ridge Landfill's Residents' Convenience Center.

HOWARD COUNTY, MD — In honor of Flag Day this Sunday, Howard County residents can retire their old or worn out American flags at the county's Alpha Ridge Landfill's Residents' Convenience Center.

The center, located at 2350 Marriottsville Road in Marriottsville, is open Monday through Saturday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. There they'll find a flag retirement drop-off container set up by the American Legion Adams, Hanna, Moore Memorial Post 156.

In accordance with the U.S. Flag Code, the Legion takes the collected flags and retires them in a dignified fashion in coordination with local Scout troops. Since the program’s inception in 2015, more than 4,000 American flags have respectfully been retired.
