ELLICOTT CITY, MD — A pizza chain known for its New York-style pies will be opening a sixth location in Maryland.
Angeli's Pizzeria first opened in New Orleans, Louisiana, in 1986. The restaurant expanded across NOLA, but Hurricane Katrina wiped the pizzeria off the map.
The family ended up moving to Maryland and opened their first Angeli's Pizzeria in Baltimore's Little Italy.
"Little Italy gave us an opportunity to make what was once a possibility into a reality, and bring back Angeli’s to a neighborhood as vibrant and as colorful as the one that we fell in love with all those years ago," the company stated on its website.
The pizzeria recently was granted approval of a Class B Beer, Wine and Liquor, 7-Day On-Sale License for the business at a county liquor board meeting.
During that meeting, co-owner Cuneyt “Juniet” Ozturk told commissioners that he and his co-owner, and brother, Mert Ozturk, planned to open the 1,500-square-foot eatery within the next two months. It will seat upwards of 30 to 40 people, reported the Baltimore Sun, and be open from daily from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.
The newest site will be located at 10039 Baltimore National Pike in Ellicott City and joins its other five locations in Baltimore's Little Italy, on York Road (Towson), Federal Hill, Bolton Hill/Mount Vernon and Inner Harbor.
The Howard County location will replace River House Pizza Co., which has moved into the Forest Green Shopping Center along Ellicott City's Main Street and now is known as River House on Main. It's in its three week of a soft opening.
Last year, The Washington Post named Angeli’s Pizzeria as the best restaurant for New York-style pizza in Maryland and 50 Top Pizza named the chain one of the 50 top pizzas in the United States, becoming the only Maryland eatery to make the list.
