HOWARD COUNTY, MD — A tractor-trailer hauling sugar caught on fire Thursday afternoon, prompting the closure of some lanes along Interstate 70.
Maryland State Patrol troopers were called to I-70 westbound before Exit 87B to U.S. Route 29 around 1:10 p.m. Thursday for a report of a vehicle fire. Troopers found the semi parked on the shoulder and on fire. Sugar had spilled onto the road, according to police.
By 3:15 p.m., only one lane was closed. An investigation into the cause of the fire will be conducted.
