Cheverly officials learned of the layoff the same day that it happened, the town stated. PepsiCo told Cheverly officials that its sales and delivery operations would continue without being affected.

"Our first concern is for the employees and families whose livelihoods are being affected by this decision," said Cheverly Town Administrator Dylan Galloway. "These workers are part of our community, and we recognize the uncertainty and hardship that a workforce reduction can create. We are committed to doing what we can to connect affected workers with available resources."

The town originally released a statement saying that only 98 of the 143 employees were affected; however, Pepsi has updated that information, clarifying that all 143 workers have been let go and 98 of those workers are represented by the Teamsters Local 639 union.
