Weekday construction from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. means residents southwest of 8392 Merryman Street must use Hill Street to reach Main Street, and drivers should expect posted detours and work-zone slowdowns.
3. 7 Students Charged With Assault In School Bullying Incident: Howard Co. Police (patch.com) — Seven Howard High School junior varsity football players have been charged via juvenile referral after an alleged bullying assault that left a teammate hospitalized, according to Howard County police. The Ellicott City–area case, which reportedly involved multiple humiliating and harmful incidents after school, remains under investigation, and the victim's mother is publicly calling for full accountability.
4. A Travel Guide to Exploring Route 40, America's First Highway (baltimoremagazine.com) — Ellicott City features prominently along Maryland's stretch of historic U.S. Route 40, with its preserved downtown, B&O Ellicott City Station Museum, and rebuilt Thomas Isaac Log Cabin highlighted as key stops. The guide suggests day trips and weekend drives that take you through Patapsco Valley State Park, Clark's Elioak Farm's Enchanted Forest figures, and other nearby attractions, tying local history to a broader road‑trip adventure.
5. North Laurel Water Main Replacement Project to Begin (howardcountymd.gov) — Howard County will soon start replacing and upsizing a key water main along U.S. 1 in North Laurel, a project announced from Ellicott City that should boost water capacity and enable future drainage and sidewalk upgrades. Beginning around Oct. 5, drivers can expect weekday lane closures and flagging operations, which may affect Ellicott City–area commuters who regularly travel this corridor.
