Art Maryland 2014, a biennial, juried multi-media exhibit, opens October 31 at the Howard County Center for the Arts. The exhibit features work selected from nearly 600 entries submitted by 214 artists working in a wide variety of styles and mediums.
Juror Julia Marciari-Alexander, Executive Director of The Walters Art Museum, selected a mixture of abstract and representational paintings, photography, film, sculpture, and prints. Selected artists include: James Adkins, Sarah E. Bentley, Bruce Blum, Lori Anne Boocks, Julia Bowden, Melissa Burley, Warren C. Chambers, Travis Childers, Winnie Coggins, Kristine Deninno, Chidinma Dureke, Melinda Fabian, Annie Farrar, Alexandra Ford, Lorenzo Gattorna, Helen Glazer, Ilene Gold, Edwin Gould, Douglas Hanewinckel, Matthew Hanson, Steven L. Hargrove, Sarah Higgins, Sydney Hopkins, Daniel Humphries-Russ, Janet Ibrahim, Don James, Sung Hoon Kim, Roberta Kine Laric, Freda Lee-McCann, Diana Marta, Shelley Meredith, Dominie Nash, Zahra Nazari, Gail Nickells, Mary D. Ott, Sarah Hood Salomon, Robert Sibbison, George L. Smyth, Nelson Steele, Barbara Talbott, Alicia Ashley Weathersby, Stanley Wenocur, and Ann Marie Williams.
Art Maryland 2014 is the nineteenth multi-media statewide juried exhibit sponsored by the Howard County Arts Council. The exhibit began in 1984 as Maryland’s Best, an annual show running through 1989 and open to all Maryland artists. In 1990, when the show became a biennial, its name was changed to Art Maryland and in 2000 expanded to include Delaware and Southeastern Pennsylvania in addition to Maryland, Virginia, and Washington D.C.

Art Maryland 2014 will be on display from October 31 through December 12, 2014. A reception will be held on Friday, November 7 from 6-8PM and will include remarks and the presentation of over $2000 in juror’s awards by Ms. Marciari-Alexander.
