Arts Council Adds 2nd Deadline for Re-Create Grant Applications
The Howard County Arts Council will accept a second round of applications for the Re-Create: Ellicott City Artist Relief Fund.
The Howard County Arts Council (HCAC) is accepting a second round of applications for the Re-Create: Ellicott City Artist Relief Fund, established to assist artists and non-profit arts and cultural organizations affected by the May 2018 flash flood in Historic Ellicott City. The next deadline for applications is December 13, 2018.
In order to strengthen and help rebuild the once-vibrant arts district in Historic Ellicott City, eligibility requirements for relief funds have been expanded to include for-profit galleries and other arts-focused businesses affected by the flood. These businesses may apply for mini-grants of up to $1000, which are intended to assist eligible applicants with losses not covered by other sources, including loss of business income for the time period the business was closed due to the flood. Re-Create will also continue to provide relief funds to individual artists and non-profit arts and cultural organizations. Recipients who have already received Re-Create grants are not eligible for further funding.
The 2018 Re-Create: Ellicott City Artist Relief Fund was established in June in response to the second catastrophic flooding event in Historic Ellicott City in less than two years, which devastated the recovering arts district in Historic Ellicott City and negatively impacted the livelihoods of many artists with studios and/or artwork in galleries there. The Re-Create Fund is supported by a major contribution from the Maryland State Arts Council, as well as through generous support from individual donors.
