Crash On I-70 Snarled Traffic Near US 29

Traffic on I-70 was backed up for hours Wednesday in Howard County due to the crash.

HOWARD COUNTY, MD — A tractor-trailer reportedly overturned on Interstate 70, snarling traffic near the exit for US 29 in Howard County. The crash occurred around 2:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 24, and lane closures were still in effect for hours.

A tractor-trailer carrying 42,000 pounds of ceramic tile collided with a pickup truck, according to WBAL, which reported the tractor-trailer driver was expected to survive his injuries, while the truck driver was not harmed.

Shortly after the crash, the State Highway Administration reported all lanes were closed on I-70 east at US 29. Traffic was detoured onto US 40, according to WMAR.

The right lane and right shoulder were closed on I-70 east before the US 29 exit but all had reopened by about 10 a.m.

Several school buses were running late as a result of the crash, according to Howard County Public School System officials.
