Crews To Replace Exposed Sewer Pipe In Stream

Crews will start working soon on replacing an exposed sewer pipe sticking out of a stream in Howard County.

ELLICOTT CITY, MD — An exposed sewer pipe located in a stream in Ellicott City will be stabilized by crews starting March 9.

The eight-inch exposed sewer pipe can be found in the stream behind 10261 Bristol Channel.

The project will include replacing the existing asbestos cement sewer pipe with a polyvinyl chloride, more commonly known as PVC, pipe. For additional cover and protection from future erosion and exposure within the stream, the new PVC pipe will be placed inside a 24-inch steel casing. Step pools and grade controls also will be constructed along the stream channel and rocks and soil will be used to stabilize the banks and armor the pipe.

Weather permitting, the project should wrap up by late March 2026.

While the project is not expected to have an impact on the flow of vehicle and foot traffic in the area, signs have been posted to alert community members of the construction work, which is expected to take place Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. To reach the site, construction crews will use an access road off Burnside Drive.
