Dangerous Algae Bloom Shuts Down Centennial Lake In Howard County

People and pets are warned not to have contact with the water in Centennial Lake due to a harmful blue-green algae bloom.

HOWARD COUNTY, MD — Centennial Lake has been shut down indefinitely because of a harmful blue-green algae bloom that's taken over the lake.

Howard County Recreation and Parks said the lake, located in Centennial Park in Ellicott City, will be closed to boating, fishing and other activities. The park itself remains open.

Any visitors, particularly children and pets, should avoid contact with the lake water. Harmful algae blooms can be toxic to people and animals.

Anyone who has contacted or ingested water from the lake is asked to contact the Howard County Health Department at 410-313-1773.
