ELLICOTT CITY, MD — With July 4th approaching, Ellicott City is gearing up to celebrate Independence Day. To help with planning, we've gathered the fireworks shows, parades and festivals happening in the area.
The high will be 90 degrees, while the low may dip to 74 in Ellicott City, according to the National Weather Service.
Based on the forecast, there's a 60 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms between 2 and 11 p.m. in Ellicott City on Thursday, July 4.

When: 5 to 10 p.m. on Thursday, July 4. Fireworks start around 9:30 p.m.

What: Catonsville Fourth of July Fireworks
Where: Catonsville High School fields, 5500 Valley Road, Catonsville, MD 21228
When: 9:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 4
What: Ports America Chesapeake 4th of July Celebration
Where: Inner Harbor, Baltimore, MD 21202
When: 7 to 10 p.m. on Thursday, July 4. Fireworks start at 9:30 p.m. Rain date is July 5.
What: Laurel 4th of July Celebration
Where: Granville Gude Park, 8300 Mulberry St, Laurel, MD 20707
When: 9:15 p.m. on Saturday, July 6. The rain date is Sunday, July 7.

A private fireworks display in Glenwood was set to go off Saturday, June 29. Howard County officials alerted the community ahead of time that they may see loud noises and smoke in the area around 9:30 p.m.
The fireworks display is one of several planned in the coming week as Independence Day nears.
Another private fireworks display is planned near the Minutoli property in Ellicott City at 9:30 p.m. Saturday, July 6.
