Ellicott City Man Dies in Head-On Crash on Route 100: Police

A man driving the wrong way on MD 100 Monday crashed into a tractor-trailer, leading to a fire and another crash, Howard County police said.

HOWARD COUNTY, MD — An Ellicott City man was killed Monday after police said he was driving the wrong direction on MD 100 and crashed head-on into a tractor-trailer, leading to a fire, a second crash and the indefinite closure of eastbound lanes.

Julio Cesar Grimaldo Gonzalez, 24, was pronounced deceased at the scene — on MD 100 between Snowden River Parkway and MD 103/Meadowridge Road — the Howard County Police Department reported.

At 3:27 a.m., Gonzalez was allegedly driving west on eastbound MD 100 when his 2015 Chevrolet Camaro hit a 2010 International Truck and his Camaro caught fire, according to police.

Another vehicle — a 2007 Chevrolet Impala — hit the tractor-trailer as well, according to police. That vehicle was headed east on MD 100.

Neither the tractor-trailer driver (Juan Manuel Uribe, 51, of Roanoke, Virginia) nor the Impala driver (Charles Kelley, 50, of Halethorpe) were injured, police said.

MD 100 was closed to eastbound traffic as police investigated. It remained closed after 10 a.m., police said.
