Mt. Hebron Field Hockey earns regional title, Chapelgate girls' soccer captures IAAM crown

The Vikings’ field hockey team advanced to the Class 3A semifinals by beating , 2-1, to become 3A East regional champs. On Monday night they hosted Huntingtown to determine which squad would head to the state championships at Washington College on November 12. Hebron entered the tournament as the #2 seed in the East, while Centennial entered as the #8 seed and reached the quarterfinals behind consecutive wins over Howard County foes Howard and Atholton.
The Hebron girls’ soccer team has made it to the 3A East quarterfinals after beating Atholton, 1-0, in the tourney’s third round. Centennial fell 1-0 in an upset loss to Reservoir in second round action. Hebron faces Reservoir at 7 PM tonight in the regional championship.
Chapelgate (16-7-1) girls’ soccer repeated as IAAM-C champs when they beat Mt. Carmel, 2-1, in the conference championship game at Friends School in Baltimore. Freshman Jordan Williams and senior Kristin Thomas scored for the Yellowjackets in the win. The Chapelgate boys’ side fell in their conference semifinal to Saints Peter and Paul, 1-0. The Yellowjackets closed out their 2011 season with an 11-4-2 mark.

Hebron grad Taeho Lim was a sophomore defender on the Howard Community College soccer team that finished the season ranked #10 nationally in the NJCAA’s Division III poll. The Dragons were the NJCAA’s Region XX champions.
(7-3) has qualified for the 3A East football playoffs and will travel to River Hill (8-2) to face the Hawks at 7:00 PM on Friday. The Lions picked up key wins over Reservoir (6-4) and Hammond (6-4) to close out their regular season schedule and gain the playoffs.

Mt. Hebron football improved over last season’s mark by posting a 3-7 overall record. The Vikings’ bested Oakland Mills, Centennial, and Marriotts Ridge this year. Hebron defensive lineman Herb Jenkins was named to the Baltimore Touchdown Club Senior All-Star Football Classic for his standout efforts for the Vikings. The game features 112 area seniors and will be played on December 10 at Stevenson University.
Centennial finished at 1-9 with their victory a 26-0 win over Marriotts Ridge.
Towson’s Justin Harris (Centennial) has appeared in all nine games as a defensive back for the Tigers and has 30 tackles. His efforts have contributed to the team’s 7-2 on the season and 5-1 record in the CAA. Howard grad and fellow Ellicott City native Trey Jackson has appeared in seven games for the Tigers at linebacker.
Howard alum Tyler Curley scored on a 14-yard third quarter run to help lead Salisbury past St. John Fisher, 41-21. Curley had 55 yards on just three carries and is averaging 9.5 yards per carry on the season. Calvin Ford (Howard) assisted on five tackles in the win that propelled the Sea Gulls to an 8-1 mark.
