Gallery I features the biennial multi-media juried exhibit Art HoCo 2011 with 46 works by 18 Howard County artists. David Gracyalny, Dean of Professional and Continuing Studies at Maryland Institute College of Art, served as the juror for Art HoCo 2011. The works included in the exhibit were selected from nearly 300 submitted by 114 artists who live, work or study in Howard County.
The artwork in Gallery II’s Modern Mythologies implies new mythological narratives. Virginia artist Tracey Clarke’s sometimes dark oil paintings depict animals with a dream-like and dramatic, yet particular vision. Meanwhile, the life-sized, figurative sculptures of Maryland’s Sarah Wegner explore stories of body-image, aging, and emotional and physical pain.
The exhibits will be open from November 4 to December 16, 2011. A reception for both exhibits, with music and light refreshments, will be held on Friday, November 11, from 6-8PM and is open to the public. Juror David Gracyalny will make remarks and present the juror’s choice awards at 6:30PM.
