A Dedication of the Herb Garden honoring Barbara Sieg’s retirement after 25 years will be held on Saturday, June 2, at 9:30 at Whipps Garden Cemetery. In 1987, as president of the St. John’s Community Association, Barbara Sieg along with other Whipps family and community members began the restoration of Whipps Cemetery. .
Singers Madrigale from Annapolis, dressed in period costumes, will start the event strolling through the garden just like you would have seen in the 1800s, followed by their performance. The ceremony will include brief speaks by Delegate Elizabeth Bobo, and other community leaders. Guided tours, highlighting the important elements of the cemetery will be conducted after the program.
Refreshments will be served. With limited parking near the cemetery, Master Gardener Jim Pede along with the Boy Scout Troop 944 will direct traffic and assist by transporting the guests from the First Lutheran Church at Corner of Chatham and Frederick Road to the Cemetery.

This heritage-garden- park cemetery is today maintained by the Howard County’s Master Gardeners and is open to the public daily. The Master Gardener program is operated by the University of Maryland’s Extension Service. Howard County Master Gardeners—over a hundred men and women—work as volunteer throughout the County on a number of horticultural and environmental projects.
