Driver Killed In One-Vehicle Howard County Crash: Police

A man was killed Wednesday morning on Route 29 in Ellicott City when his vehicle left the road, hit a pole and caught fire, police say.

HOWARD COUNTY, MD — Howard County police are investigating a fatal single-vehicle collision that occurred in Ellicott City Wednesday morning.

At approximately 4:42 a.m., a 2022 Nissan Rouge was heading north on Route 29 at the ramp to I-70 east when it left the roadway for an unknown reason, according to the police department. The vehicle hit a sign support pole. The vehicle then caught fire.

The driver was the only person in the vehicle and he was pronounced dead at the scene. The police department sais it will identify the victim when next of kin has been notified.

The cause of the collision remains under investigation. A portion of the ramp to I-70 east was closed for about four hours, a news release said.
