Deadly Crash Near Dorsey's Search: Police Identify Driver

ELLICOTT CITY, MD — A 29-year-old died Wednesday morning when his vehicle crashed into a tree near Dorsey's Search, according to the Howard County Police Department.

Sukhita Himanshu Jayaratna, 29, of Singers Glen Drive in Olney, was pronounced dead at the scene on Columbia Road near Hemlock Cone Way, according to officials.

Police said he was the only person inside the 2005 Honda Pilot in the 8:30 a.m. crash.

Based on preliminary investigation, authorities said Jayaratna was not wearing a seatbelt.

For unknown reasons, police said the driver left the road as he was headed westbound on Columbia Road and hit a tree just before Hemlock Cone Way.

Columbia Road was closed between Old Dragon Path and Hemlock Cone Way for two and a half hours so police could investigate.
