Gas Main Relocation Starts Wednesday In Ellicott City

Signs and flagging operations will be in place to direct traffic as needed, because temporary lane closures can be expected.

ELLICOTT CITY, MD — A BGE project to relocate a gas main in the 8600 block of Main Street in Ellicott City is scheduled to begin Wednesday. The project will involve the installation of a new gas main, starting in the 8600 block of Main Street and heading east. The relocation work will accommodate additional utility work and make way for the future construction of the 8600 Main Street Culvert, part of the County’s Ellicott City Safe and Sound plan. Weather permitting, the total project will take three to four weeks to complete.

Signs and flagging operations will be in place to direct traffic as needed, because temporary lane closures can be expected during construction hours, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

"We continue making forward progress on the projects needed to mitigate future flooding in Ellicott City," said Howard County Executive Calvin Ball in a statement. "This utility work is critical to make way for the 8600 Main Street Culvert and ensures reliable and safe infrastructure for our downtown residents. Please be sure to slow down and stay alert when traveling through this work zone."
