Glenelg Country School Supports Landmine Affected Countries
Proceeds from the K9-9K will Support The Marshall Legacy Institute's Landmine Detection Dogs and Prosthetics for Landmine Survivors

Glenelg Country School (GCS), a leading independent college preparatory school for age two through grade twelve, will take steps towards alleviating suffering and promoting hope, growth and stability in war-torn countries at this year’s K9-9K Family Fun Day. The morning will kick off with a choice of three different courses to pick from - a 1k walk, a 5k walk, and a 9k run. Following the courses, there will be fun for all ages with food, raffle prizes, and family activities such as a moon bounce, crafts, music, and more! The Marshall Legacy Institute’s (MLI) canine ambassador will be on-site showing how dogs are able to safely and effectively “sniff out” landmines!

Since 2008, MLI and GCS have partnered in the mission to help rid the world of landmines, as well as promote global citizenship among students. Through MLI’s Children Against Mines Program (CHAMPS), GCS students participate in meaningful service-learning projects to help children living in war-torn countries who have been injured by landmines. These projects provide valuable resources, especially mine detection dogs (MDDs), for landmine clearance; educate citizens about the dangers of mines; train national leaders charged with mine action responsibilities; and assist landmine survivors with physical and psychological needs.
“The partnership with MLI has taught our students they can make a significant difference in the world and has allowed them to build relationships with children in other countries,” said Anne Wooleyhand, Head of Lower School.
