HCLS Wins $20K 2023 Maryland Makerspace Initiative Program Grant

The Howard County Library System has been awarded $20K from the 2023 Maryland Makerspace Initiative Program.

HOWARD COUNTY, MD — The Howard County Library System has been selected as one of 20 award winners in the 2023 Maryland Makerspace Initiative Program.

HCLS will receive $20,000 to fund a feasibility study for a makerspace at the future downtown Columbia library. The study will include market research, community engagement and fiscal; and operational analysis.

With this grant, HCLS will invite stakeholders – consisting of community members, local businesses; and community partners – to join a Makerspace Advisory Board and provide feedback on the feasibility study next year.

“This grant will help us to fully understand and incorporate community aspirations for a makerspace and to expand our connections within the technology and entrepreneurial ecosystem," said HCLS’ Chief Operating Officer for Public Services and project lead Lew Belfont.
