HCPSS Delays Start Of Winter Sports Season Again

HOWARD COUNTY, MD — Howard County Public School System athletes must wait a bit longer to launch their season. The winter athletic season, previously scheduled to begin Jan. 4, has been postponed until Jan. 11. According to the school district, the delay will "allow time following the winter break for staff to assess the current health environment and prepare for the return to athletics the following week."

Virtual athletics sessions will continue and online registration for winter athletics will remain open via HCPSS Connect. On Nov. 16, HCPSS decided to suspend all current in-person opportunities effective Nov. 19. Howard County continues to regularly remain above 5 percent COVID-19 test positivity rate and a case rate of more than 30 per 100,000. HCPSS will regularly monitor health metrics and update staff and the community the week following winter break.
