HCPSS Makes Weather Call For Tuesday, January 29

BREAKING: Officials with the Howard County Public School System made a change to Tuesday's schedule as winter weather approaches.

HOWARD COUNTY, MD — Public schools will dismiss three hours early on Tuesday, Jan. 29, in Howard County. Officials with the Howard County Public School System made the announcement Tuesday morning.

The following are canceled on Tuesday, Jan. 29, according to HCPSS:

  • Half-day prekindergarten, including morning pre-K and RECC
  • After care programs sponsored by the Columbia Association and the Department of Recreation & Parks in HCPSS schools
  • Afternoon pre-K
  • School- and community-sponsored events scheduled for Tuesday evening
  • Board of Education public hearing on the superintendent’s proposed FY 2020 budget

The hearing on the superintendent's budget, which was slated for Tuesday night, has been rescheduled to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 31.

News of the early dismissal on Tuesday comes as highway crews prepare roads for a rain-snow mix expected to start midday and continue into the evening. It prompted the National Weather Service to issue a winter weather advisory for the Baltimore-Washington area. About 1 inch of snow is expected in Howard County.
