Hogan Appoints New Howard County Sheriff
Former Howard County police chief Bill McMahon will be the new Howard County sheriff.

ELLICOTT CITY, MD — There's a new sheriff in town in Howard County, and many will recognize him.
Gov. Larry Hogan appointed William "Bill" McMahon, past chief of the Howard County Police Department, to the post, after the previous sheriff was forced to resign.
McMahon, police chief from 2006 to 2014, said he was "honored and humbled to be appointed" to the sheriff position.

"As a 30-year resident of the county, I am deeply committed to upholding our laws and working to ensure the safety of all citizens," McMahon said in a statement.
