Howard County Arts Council Announces Two New Exhibits in November
Art Howard County 2017 and Chroma will be on display from November 3 through December 15

The Howard County Arts Council announces two new exhibits in the galleries at the Howard County Center for the Arts. Gallery I features the biennial multi-media juried exhibit Art Howard County 2017, featuring 54 works by 36 Howard County artists. Thomas Engleman, Gallery Director and Professor of Visual Arts at Howard Community College, served as guest juror for the exhibit, selecting work from among 149 entries submitted by 56 artists who live, work or study in Howard County, Maryland. The work from these talented local artists is wide-ranging and includes drawing, painting, photography, sculpture, jewelry, collage, cut paper, and fiber art.
Reality proves a fertile playground for the imaginations of the artists showcased in Gallery II’s Chroma. Sabine Carlson’s colorful oil paintings depict fragmented figurative imagery in abstracted landscapes, while Robert Mathews creates unsettling portraits of his ‘imaginary friends.’
The exhibits will be on display from November 3 to December 15, 2017. A reception for both exhibits, with music and light refreshments, will be held on Friday, November 10, from 6-8PM and is open to the public. Juror Thomas Engleman will make remarks and present the juror’s choice awards at 6:30PM.
