Howard County Arts Council Presents Two New Exhibits

Our popular Youth Art Month and No Boundaries exhibits will be on display March 11 to April 22.

March is Youth Art Month and once again the Howard County Arts Council commemorates the occasion with its annual spring exhibit of student artwork in Gallery I at the Howard County Center for the Arts. Presented through an ongoing partnership between Howard County Public School System and Howard County Arts Council (HCAC), this year’s Youth Art Month exhibit is titled Game Changers: Collaboration, Play and the Search for New Ideas and features hundreds of works by HCPSS students in grades K-12. The students’ artwork, selected from public school art classes throughout the county, investigates the many ways that students can achieve artistic innovation through games and collaboration.

In Gallery II, in partnership with Howard County Recreation and Parks’ Department of Therapeutic Recreation and Inclusion Services, the exhibit No Boundaries showcases work by youth and adult artists with developmental disabilities. Often colorful and expressive, the work was created in the Exploring Art and Focus on Art programs offered by the Department of Therapeutic Recreation and Inclusion Services. In these programs, youth and adults with developmental disabilities have the opportunity to explore a variety of media, styles, and methods of creating art.

Both exhibits will be open from March 11 to April 22, 2016. A free public reception including light refreshments will be held on Thursday, April 14, from 5-7 pm. The evening will also feature a Summer Arts Camp Preview, with sample activities led by teachers from HCAC’s Visual and Performing Arts Summer Camps as well as a display of projects from previous camps. Staff will also be on site to answer questions and accept summer camp registrations. HCAC Summer Camps run June through August and offer visual and performing arts classes for students entering grades K-7.
