Howard County 'Police Pace' 5K to Honor Fallen Officers

The race takes off from Centennial Park this weekend.

Centennial Park will host hundreds of runners on Sunday for the twenty-third annual Police Pace 5K.

The race honors fallen officers or those injured in the line of duty. Proceeds benefit the families of fallen and injured officers through the he Howard County Police Foundation, which also provides scholarships and support services for police department members and their families.

The event is billed as family friendly. Patrol cars, motorcycles, K9s and the mounted patrol will be on hand, as well as face painters, ballooons and other activities for children.

The race will conclude with a ceremony at which more than 50 runners will receive performance awards. A mountain bike and gift certificates will be raffled off as well.

Last year, more than 600 people participated in the race. This year, the Howard County Police Department reports more than 800 runners and walkers are signed up.

Registration costs $50 and includes a T-shirt and lunch. Family registrations are also available. People can register online or in person the day of the race at 7:30 a.m. Visit www.policepace.com for more information.
