Howard County Student Named A 2024 National Merit Scholar
A student at River Hill High School in Clarksville has been named a 2024 National Merit Scholar. She earned a scholarship from the UMD.
HOWARD COUNTY, MD — The last group of National Merit Scholar winners for 2024 has been announced.
More than 800 National Merit scholarship winners have been chosen in this last round, including one from Howard County. This year, 149 colleges and universities are sponsoring approximately 3,700 Merit Scholarship awards. Sponsor colleges include 77 private and 72 public institutions located in 42 states and the District of Columbia.
Kathryn A. Wieber of Highland attends River Hill High School in Clarksville. She intends to study computer engineering in college and received a National Merit Scholarship from the University of Maryland.

This final group of winners brings the number of 2024 National Merit Scholars to more than 6,900. These high school graduates will receive scholarships for undergraduate
study worth a total of nearly $26 million.
