Kindergarten Enrollment Underway For Howard County Public Schools
If a parent believes that a delay in school attendance is in a child's best interest, a parent can exempt him or her from enrolling in HCPSS
HOWARD COUNTY, MD — Parents and guardians of children who will be five as of Sept. 1, 2020, must enroll their children in kindergarten for the 2020-2021 school year. To begin the enrollment process, complete the online registration form. While completing the online registration form, be sure to upload the required documents. Each child’s school will contact the parent or guardian to schedule a virtual meeting to complete the registration process. During this virtual meeting, a parent or guardian will be asked to verify parental relationship and submit any additional required documentation.
If a parent believes that a delay in school attendance is in a child’s best interest, a parent can exempt him or her from mandatory school attendance for one year by completing a kindergarten waiver form. Following the one-year waiver, a parent or guardian must register a child for kindergarten. If a child already is enrolled in kindergarten but a parent or guardian feels that it is in their best interest to withdraw from kindergarten, then file the kindergarten waiver form to delay kindergarten attendance until the following school year.
