Knife Found On Student At School Prompting Brief Lockdown

A student with a knife at Howard High School prompted a building lockdown, which didn't last long.

HOWARD COUNTY, MD — Howard High School in Ellicott City was placed on lockdown briefly Wednesday when a student was discovered with a knife. The student fled the school and the building switched to a modified lockdown. During a modified lockdown, all exterior doors are locked and monitored with restricted access.

The Howard County Police Department was contacted and has been investigating the incident.

"I want to commend the students who reported the knife so that school administrators could handle the situation as quickly as possible," the district noted in an email alert sent to parents and guardians.
