Main Street Closed During Flash Flood Warning: HoCo Government
BREAKING: Old Ellicott City is included in a flash flood warning, prompting storm sirens, road closure.

ELLICOTT CITY, MD — Main Street is closed in old Ellicott City Wednesday night, according to Howard County government officials. The road is closed between Maryland and Rogers avenues, officials said before 6:30 p.m.
Those in historic Ellicott City should seek higher ground immediately. A flash flood warning is in effect until 8:45 p.m., and a flood warning is in effect until 9:30 p.m.
Radar and gauges showed up to 2 inches of rain had fallen before 6 p.m., with another 1 to 2 inches expected by 7 p.m., according to the warning.

"Ellicott City Safe and Sound Tone Alert System has been activated and has sounded numerous times and will continue to sound periodically throughout the warning period," Howard County government officials reported before 6:30 p.m.

Access point gates on higher ground are unlocked, according to authorities.
BWI measured 2.39 inches of rain between 4:54 and 5:49 p.m., at which point it was still raining, according to the National Weather Service.
A flash flood watch remains in effect until 11 p.m.
