Man Dies After Falling Off Friend's Vehicle In Woodbine: Police

WOODBINE, MD — Officials say that a man has died after falling off his friend's vehicle near the Howard-Carroll county line over the weekend.

Shawn Christopher Shifflett, 28, of Westminster, was riding on the outside of a friend's 1990 Mercury Grand Marquis around 1:40 p.m. on Sunday in Woodbine, police said.

Shifflett fell from the vehicle onto Newport Road, according to the Howard County Police Department.

He was flown to the University of Maryland R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center, where police said he was pronounced deceased on Monday.

Police said charges have not been filed against the driver — Justin Steven Young, 29, of Westminster — and the investigation is continuing.
