Man Killed After Pickup Lands In Wooded Drainage Area: Howard County Police

HOWARD COUNTY, MD — A Jessup man has died after the pickup truck he was driving left Route 1 and landed in a wooded drainage area. Ivan Claude Merrill Jr., 56, was taken to Howard County General Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The incident occurred at around 10:40 a.m. Monday. Merrill Jr. was heading southbound on Route 1 near Route 32 in a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado when the crash occurred, according to the Howard County Police Department.

A portion of Route 1 south was closed for approximately three hours. The cause of the collision remains under investigation, the police department noted.
