Man Sentenced In Non-Fatal Jessup Motel Shooting: Howard County Prosecutor

A 33-year-old man has been sentenced in the non-fatal shooting that happened last summer at a Jessup motel, prosecutors say.

JESSUP, MD — A 33-year-old has been sentenced for his role in a shooting that happened last year.

On June 2, 2023, around 12:42 p.m., Howard County Police were called to the Cedar Motel located in the 8000 block of Washington Boulevard for a report of a man who had been shot. The victim was taken to University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center and later released, police said.

Demitri Anwar Duhart, the suspect in the shooting, immediately ran to his apartment nearby after the shooting where he changed clothes, shaved his facial hair and cut off his dreadlocks to try and disguise his appearance, police said.

After police hunted for Duhart, they found him several days later in another jurisdiction. In April, Duhart was found guilty of attempted second-degree murder, first-degree assault, use of a handgun in the crime of violence and possession of a firearm with a disqualifying crime. On July 12, Duhart was sentenced to 35 years in prison.
