More Main Street Reopening in Ellicott City After Flood
County officials announce a new stretch of Main Street will reopen in historic Ellicott City in the days ahead.
ELLICOTT CITY, MD — Another section of Main Street in Ellicott City is slated to reopen, officials announced Thursday.
Main Street will reopen between Court Avenue and Forrest Street on Monday, Sept. 12.
“Each week, we bring a little more normalcy back to Main Street,” County Executive Allan Kittleman said in a statement Thursday. “Every step forward, every shrinking of the ‘no-access’ perimeter, is welcome progress.”

The main artery through downtown Ellicott City has been closed to the public since July 30, when a deadly flash flood ravaged the area. Officials are working to secure the area and fix infrastructure damaged in the storm, opening access as parts of the downtown are suitable for public use.
Main Street from Ellicott Mills Drive to Court Avenue reopened Aug. 24.
