National Educator Award Given To Mount Hebron High School Economics Teacher

An economics teacher at Mount Hebron High School has been given a national educator award.

HOWARD COUNTY, MD — Economics teacher Vann Prime with Mount Hebron High School has won the 2021 John Morton Excellence in the Teaching of Economics Award, which is given annually by the Council for Economic Education to recognize an outstanding elementary, middle and high school teacher. This is the most prestigious national award given for the teaching of economics.

Prime said the secret to keeping his students engaged is through “motivation and inspiration.”

As the 2021 high school award recipient, Prime will receive his award Sept. 30 at the Council for Economic Education Financial Literacy and Economic Education Conference. He along with the award recipients for the elementary and middle school categories will address their colleagues nationally on classroom technique at the “Award Winning Teachers Share Best Practices” session of the conference.

In addition to serving as an economics teacher, Prime also is the faculty coach of Mount Hebron’s three-time national winning Maryland and National Economics Challenge teams. As part of the National Economics Challenge program, Mount Hebron High School competed successfully against state champion teams from across the United States, as well as international teams from Xi’an Gaoxin No. 1 High School International Course Center and Shanghai Starriver Bilingual School.
