Nominations are being accepted now for Howard County's annual business recycling and waste reduction and green community leadership awards.

HOWARD COUNTY, MD — Nomination forms are now available for Howard County's annual business recycling and waste reduction and green community leadership awards. Deadline for nominations falls on Feb. 16.

"Recognizing businesses who earn these awards builds upon the progress we have made over the last five years to be the national model on energy independence and environmental protection, including planting more than 67,000 trees during the last five years, expanding our food scrap program to nearly 68 percent of residents, becoming the first county in the nation to receive a LEED Platinum Certification under the current version, signing the largest solar Power Purchase Agreement in Maryland, and preserving more than 23,000 acres of farmland. Through their actions, dedication and support of our goal to create a clean and energy independent environment, these groups are showing us all that meaningful change can come from all around us," Howard County Executive Calvin Ball.
