One Act Theater Festival at Howard County Center for the Arts!

This year’s festival features the world premiere of four one acts - three of them written by playwrights in the Washington-Baltimore area, and one by the winner of last year’s festival, Californian Ron Tochterman.

The One Acts will be presented in the following order:

Who Ate the Unicorn? - A family with an ark full of animals, lost at sea for months. Simmering tensions explode when the lone unicorn goes missing. Find out why in the outrageous Who Ate the Unicorn?

Judicial Education - A grisly murder case is being tried in California; a man is on trial for murdering his wife and children. The prosecution’s case largely hinges on whether a letter written by the deceased wife should be allowed into evidence. The case originally appears to be a slam--dunk for the prosecution, but is it as clear-cut as it first appears?

The Illusionist - Based on real events in the UK during the 1980s and 90s, the story is about a down on his luck painter who gets caught up in an art forgery racket. The art world is tricked into accepting the painters’ forgeries when the documentation of classic works are forged. The story ends in court, where we see how the con man trapped in his own web of lies hilariously tries to escape his inevitable fate.

How Much Is Shipping? - In between naps, Clara strives to save the world without ever leaving her bed. Unfortunately, even her best laid plans don’t always turn out as she imagines.

This year’s festival is an impressive collaboration by more 30 actors, directors, playwrights, and technical crew members from Prince George’s, Montgomery, Howard, and Charles Counties! The four plays run the gamut from hilarious comedy to nail-biting suspense.
