County Vehicle Hit Pedestrian Near Long Gate: Police
Preliminarily, police said pedestrian appeared to be at fault in Long Gate Parkway crash.
Ellicott City, MD — A pedestrian was hit by a marked Howard County Recreation and Parks vehicle Thursday afternoon on Long Gate Parkway, according to the Howard County Police Department. The road was closed to traffic for approximately two and a half hours.
At 2:50 p.m., officials responded to Long Gate Parkway at Wheatfield Way, where they said a 2015 Chevy Silverado hit a pedestrian crossing the road toward the Long Gate Shopping Center.
Several witnesses reportedly said the pedestrian walked into the road against the traffic signal; preliminarily, police said it appeared the driver, an on-duty Howard County employee, was not at fault.

The pedestrian was taken to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in critical condition, police said.
Long Gate Parkway was closed between Montgomery Road and MD 100 for investigation until approximately 5:20 p.m., according to police.
