Howard County Police Ramp Up Patrols, Enact Other Safety Measures This Holiday Season

Howard Co. Police will add patrol cars, monitor fire safety lanes at stores, target fake IDs at bars and other measures for the holidays.

HOWARD COUNTY, MD — This holiday season, the Howard County Police Department plans to ramp up its coverage to keep residents safe.

The police department recently shared what efforts it will be making starting this week:

  • Increased checks at bars starting the Wednesday before Thanksgiving to enforce underage drinking laws.
  • Extra patrol cars on the roads looking specifically for impaired drivers under the influence of drugs or alcohol, especially during the Thanksgiving holiday. Officers will also be looking for distracted driving, speeding and seat belt/child safety seat violations.
  • Patrolling shopping centers and malls to keep pedestrians staff.
  • Checking fire lanes at shopping centers where parking is illegal. Violators will be ticketed.
