A stretch of New Cut Road in Ellicott City will be closed through July 2020 to accommodate for several projects in the area.

ELLICOTT CITY, MD — Starting Friday, Oct. 25, traffic will be rerouted away from 3812 New Cut Road and vehicles will not be allowed in that area until the project is done approximately in July 2020. The county will be constructing two retaining walls and the area will be regraded in order to stabilize and strengthen the area between New Cut Road and New Cut tributary. The water and sewer main also will be relocated.

"The repair work on New Cut Road is critical to the success of Ellicott City and is symbolic of our community’s progress,” said Howard County Executive Calvin Ball in a statement. “We are advancing the projects, with funding from FEMA and National Resources Conservation Services, to move effectively and efficiently toward safety.”

The county also is rebuilding a retaining wall in the vicinity of 3910 New Cut Road and making repairs at 20 storm drain culvert crossings along New Cut Road between College Avenue and Baugher Farm Road. Eight additional BGE utility poles will be relocated in the vicinity of 3900 block of New Cut Road. This work also should be completed by late July 2020, weather permitting.
