Residents Asked To Report Pipe Material To Howard Co. Public Works
Residents are asked to check on the pipe material used at their home so the HoCo public works department can comply with an EPA requirement.
HOWARD COUNTY, MD — Residents are being asked to check their service line to determine what material the pipe is made from and report back to the Howard County Department of Public Works.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has imposed a November 2027 deadline for its latest Lead and Copper Rule Revisions that requires municipalities to compile a material inventory of every service line.
"While the department maintains an inventory of its lines and most residential properties, the material of many customer-side service lines still remains unknown," the county stated.

Anyone who recently received a mailer from the department of public works is asked to visit DPW's interactive Howard County Service Line Stewardship Program Inventory Map website to search for an address and complete the corresponding online self-reporting survey.
Anyone unable to access their pipe and need help completing the survey can contact the DPW’s SLSP team at 410-313-6118, because the department will inspect service lines for free by appointment.
