Expect Road Closure, Detour During Stormwater Management Pond Repair Project In HoCo

Drivers in the Huntshire Drive area should expect a road closure and detour during an upcoming project; the shopping center will remain open

HOWARD COUNTY, MD — A stormwater management pond located next to 6501 Huntshire Drive in Elkridge will undergo repairs starting May 23, weather permitting. The project will be completed in two consecutive phases and will include the installation of a new concrete riser and three 48-inch reinforced concrete principal spillway pipes, two forebays, a pilot channel, relocation of sections of a sanitary sewer line and a water line, and the placement of stone at the outfall to reduce erosive velocities.

While the first phase of the project will not require a road closure or detour, the sidewalk adjacent to the pond will be closed to pedestrians during this phase of the project. Signs will be posted near the project site to alert drivers and pedestrians of the work and closure. Weather permitting, the first phase should be completed in early August 2022.

Once the first phase is done, the county department of public works will start the second phase. A portion of Huntshire Drive from 6501 to 6515 will be closed to through traffic in both directions; the entrance to the Meadowridge Landing Shopping Center will remain open. Traffic will follow a clearly marked detour using Old Highgate Drive, Old Rockbridge Drive and Meadowridge Road. Weather permitting, the second phase should be completed by early December 2022.
