Sewells Orchard Pond Repair Project To Be Discussed Feb. 7

HOWARD COUNTY, MD — A public meeting will be held Feb. 7 at 7 p.m. at the county rec and parks department headquarters, 7120 Oakland Mills Road, to review the proposed Sewells Orchard Pond repair project. County officials will discuss new options and concepts that will help reduce environmental impacts during the work.

The proposed project will include the removal and replacement of the old metal outlet spillway with a new concrete outlet structure that will have a longer service life than metal. It also will bring the pond into compliance with current Maryland Department of the Environment requirements.

This meeting will include an overview of the project and presentation of several concepts for accomplishing the repair work. County department of public works staff, as well as representatives from the design consulting firm, environmental specialists, the contractor and other county agencies, will remain on hand afterwards to take comments and answer any questions.

The project is funded through the county’s Watershed Protection and Restoration Fund.
