Sidewalk Extension Project Brings Path Into ADA Compliance in Howard County

A sidewalk extension project in Howard County will bring a portion of a walking route into ADA compliance. It starts Nov. 14.

HOWARD COUNTY, MD — Starting Nov. 14, the sidewalk along eastbound Whiskey Bottom Road to Moonshine Hollow and Old Lantern Way in Laurel will be extended. The project is part of Howard County's pedestrian plan WalkHoward: Moving Forward.

This project will close the gap with an Americans with Disabilities Act compliant walking route to the next existing sidewalk found west of Old Lantern Way. A concrete waiting pad will be added at the existing RTA bus stop at the intersection of Whiskey Bottom and Moonshine Hollow. Weather permitting, the project should be completed by early December.

The project is not expected to impact the general flow of vehicular traffic; however, flaggers will be in place to direct motorists during material deliveries and during paving and striping of the eastbound lane. Signs will be posted at the project site to advise drivers and pedestrians of the work and closure.
