Sonic Sets Opening Date for Ellicott City Location

The wait for Sonic in Ellicott City is over.

After a development process that drew on for more than a year, the fast-food restaurant will celebrate its grand opening on Oct. 16 at its brand-new location on US Route 40.

While Sonic offers burgers and shakes, what distinguishes it from other chains is that “car hops” bring food to individual vehicles, which—rather than driving up to a window and pulling into a line—pull up to an individual station with a menu and button.

Most Sonics are outside-only establishments, with carports where each vehicle pulls in to wait for the food. However, the owner told Ellicott City Patch previously that this one will have indoor seating.

Sonic is located at 10160 Baltimore National Pike, on the same side of Route 40 as the Enchanted Forest, approximately 0.2 mile west of the shopping center. Sonic will open Oct. 16.
